Regardless of where you get married, what vendors you hire, and what time of year you say I Do, one of the most important details of your wedding is the dress. It doesn't matter who you purchased the dress from, the timeline of when to start the search and when to finish alterations is the same for most everybody. But what exactly does that look like? Grab your calendars! It's time to start planning.
ONE YEAR UNTIL THE WEDDING:
In addition to hiring your photographer, booking your venue, and getting all the details hashed out with you planner, you should try and check in on your budget to see what styles and designers you can start browsing. Buying the dress is easiest after you choose your venue as you'll be able to narrow down what's going to look the best in front of your future alter.
Once you've made a list of the who, what, and where, start booking appointments! Keep your dress appointment guest list small so you don't feel pressured or influenced to pick a dress that's pretty, but not exactly YOU.
NINE MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING
If you haven't found your perfect dress by now, it's time to kick it up a gear! This should be top priority so you make sure that you lock in your dream designer before she's booked up for the season!
SIX MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING
Time for the fun part: the details! We're talking shoes, lingerie, and accessories. You should also be chatting with your hairstylist about veils or headpieces! Struggling to decide which is best? Decide on your hairstyle first, since that will be the easier decision. Then, consider what styles are going to look best between that and your dress silhouette!
THREE MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING
You and your designer should be touching base by now on your alterations schedule to make that gorgeous gown become officially yours. Remember to bring all the necessary undergarments and accessories so you can see how it all ties together!
ONE WEEK UNTIL THE WEDDING
It's no joke that time flies when planning for your big day! By now, you will have finished all your alterations and your gorgeous gown is stored at home (or in the studio until your scheduled pickup). Time to tie up those loose ends! Make sure all your accessories are in one place, especially if you are traveling. It's a smart idea to keep your "just in case" kit alongside so it's easily accessed.
What else is there to plan for besides your I Do's?! Wedding dress shopping shouldn't be complicated. Don't hesitate check in with your vendors if you have any questions on the "what to do's", trust me, they will always have the answers.
