If this were an April Fools joke, it would be the more elaborate joke of all time! But it’s not a joke, it’s very much for real. After five years as Katie Dessin Photography, after five years of blue being my identity, after five years of logos creatively representing my service in Oregon, I have allowed myself to release from that and find a new way to grow.
Finding something unique to do for Valentine's Day is a struggle for most of us. You either want to do something big, or you want to do something small. Either way, you just want it to be special! This year, take the simple approach and share your love in tiny, but big ways. Chocolates and roses are great, but try one of these cute Valentine's plans if you want to surprise your partner, sister, or best friend in an unexpected way.
Tomorrow marks the fifth class at Second City here in Los Angeles, and boy have I learned a lot! Tuesdays are my favorite days of the week because it’s the day I get to connect with my peers, play a bunch of games, learn how to recover from failure, and basically laugh a lot! Second City generously allows its students to see most shows for $1, so there’s hardly any excuse to skip out! I’ve seen some of the funniest, most talented humans ever on those stages.
Watching an improv team perform, work together, release themselves of expectations, and fail so wonderfully is such an incredible feeling I’m trying to find the words to describe. When you see a team cooperate and have each other’s back, sure the scenes get funnier, but also the show just works better. It’s more entertaining to watch not just for the laughs, but the dynamic. Every person brings their own strength and value to the group, and when the team helps highlight that in others, you can’t take your eyes off the stage.
Alright, February, what’s good? It feels like January lasted an eternity, and here we are! Officially one full month into 2019! Although Jan felt long, I’m somewhat grateful it did feel that way so I could fully experience what the month had in store for me. And let me tell you, it was a LOT! Do you feel the same? Instead of a typical month in review, I wanted to give you a little insight on how I used January to fuel my year. Below is a list of books, movies, songs, tools, etc. that I found or used in January that are defining my year. Both in business and personal life! If you had a rocky start to this year, take the time to hit the reset button free of shame! Allow yourself to find your balance before taking another step. Maybe these resources below can help you do just that.
Hey gorgeous, I'm Katie! Nice to see ya here.
I am a film-obsessed, adventure-seeking, fun-loving, bad-joke-making wedding photographer serving Portland, Oregon and Los Angeles, California. You can read up on all my photography and work related facts on my about page, so I won’t bother with talking about that (even though it’s crucial to who I am). I want to share with you a few things about me that you might not know. These are completely unrelated to my work, but are absolutely related to my story and what contributes to my personality. Let’s see if we share any of these in common:
When it comes to new cameras, I’m sort of like a dragon. I want to hoard them all and create an overabundant collection just because I love them so much! Last year I added a few new ones to my arsenal. One of my absolute favorite additions was my polaroid camera! We purchased a higher quality Instax to use for weddings and on our random adventures. It’s not always easy or convenient to print off photos after every fun memory, and sometimes you just want to have a quick souvenir. So basically bringing it to LA for the trip was an absolute must! Hopefully you can see why.
So this is 25. A quarter of a century. There’s a line I’m walking between wanting to know everything and do everything now, and wanting to take each day a little slower. I’m sure some of you can relate. I love having a birthday close to the new year, because it’s close enough to the Holidays to drag out the celebration, but not too close it’s forgotten.
Having already set my intentions for the new year, my birthday is a day of celebration with those intentions in mind. What I dislike about having a January birthday is usually how cold it gets without it actually snowing (I love snow). BUT, this year I get to spend it in the SUN. Oh, I’m so happy about that, I can’t even tell you.
